Laguna Eagle Eye

October 12, 2007

Dear Parents,

There are two very important parent education meetings planned for October. The first is on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7pm. I will be reviewing the process of our school Crisis plan and what to do in an emergency. This is not a meeting for children.  Sensitive videos and information will be shared with you and it is not appropriate for a child to hear.  The second meeting is training on Monday, October 29th at 1:30pm for parents about Everyday math so you can support home learning as well as when you are volunteering on campus. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending these important parent events. We ask that you RSVP for the math training so we have enough materials for everyone. 484-2400

Site Council… The Laguna Improvement Team (LIT) is the school site council. Parents, staff and community members represent your voice in school decisions. Minutes from these meetings can be found in the school office.

Thank you… Mrs. Maroon and Mrs. Crum for organizing the volunteers for our Health Screening and all the volunteers who spent the day ensuring a smooth testing. Another thank you to Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Zillwood for providing a special lunch to feed our hard working volunteers.

Thank you … to the families that donated books for the used book fair. It was a huge success! Mrs. Shein, Mrs. Guthrie, Mrs. Johns and Mrs. Schouten all did a fabulous job of organizing and managing the fair. A great big thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to the fair. It was very successful and a wonderful sight to see children getting excited about books

Attendance: Letters were sent out this week to families who are having difficulty getting to school on time every day. If you received one of these letters and have unusual circumstances that have led to excessive absences then please call the office. It is important that children are in their seats by 8:15am each and every day. Please help with developing this good habit.

Teacher Awards… Applications for the Silver Apple Award are available in the office. Take a moment to complete this short form to nominate YOUR favorite classroom teacher! We can send them home with your child if your child comes to the office.

A+ Application… The surveys are coming! It is important we hear from you so please take a moment to complete the A+ surveys coming home and return them to school right away. Your opinions and your voice is a critical component of the application.

Volunteers… Question: If I had a background check through my business do I need to have one from SUSD? Answer: Yes, SUSD’s background check is specific to education. If you work for the district, substitute or had one completed because of middle/high school field trips you do not need to do it again. They are good for three years.
